The Message of Humanity in Steven Spielberg’s Movie “Schindler’s List” (1993)

Abstract

Humanity is the positive traits in humans that show their concern for others, caring for and helping others whenever and wherever possible, when others need help the most, forgetting private interests at times, extending unconditional love in every matters. The purpose of this study to analyse the meaning of message humanity as well as the form of action of the message of humanity in the movie Schindler's List 1993 by Steven Spielberg's. The source of the data are^% the movie and the movie scripts Schindler’s List (1993) by Steven Spielberg. To collect the data the writer use Simak Bebas Libat Cakap (SBLC) method. Peterson classifies humanity into three, namely Love, Kindness, and Social Intelligence. (Peterson, 2004: 29). The writer uses Semiotics theory of Saussure to find out the message of humanity in Schindler’s List (1993) movie. In this study, the writer analyses the data qualitatively and presents the findings descriptively. The movie contains those three aspects of humanity that are expressed in which 30 forms totally belong to Kindness (19 forms), Love (7 forms) and Social Intelligance (4 forms). The results of the writer analyse about the message of humanity can be apply in real life, such as human beings, we should be able to treat fellow human beings properly according to their rights as human beings, even though we cannot help in the form of real action, we can also give prayers to those who are suffering.
