Figurative Language in English Songs Sung by Putri Ariani

This research discusses about 3 kinds kinds of figurative language based on Laurence Perrine and Thomas Arp (1978), there are figurative language comparison, by association, and by contrast. The objective of this study is to analyse the figurative language in English songs sung by Putri Ariani. The writer uses 10 English songs sung by Putri Ariani entitled Loneliness – Putri Ariani, Perfect Liar – Putri Ariani, Who I am – Putri Ariani, Happier – Olivia Rodrigo, I’ll Never Love Again – Lady Gaga, Someone You Loved – Lewis Capaldi, Can’t Help Falling in Love – Elvis Presley, Right Here Waiting – Richard Marx, Make You Feel My Love – Adele, and Easy On Me – Adele. This study uses descriptive qualitative method. The writer finds 7 of 12 types of figurative language in the English songs sung by Putri Ariani. The result of this research is 54 data that includes 18 figurative (comparison), 12 (association), and 24 (contrast). The most dominant figurative language of 10 English songs sung by Putri Ariani is hyperbole.
