Abstract

Self-medication is used by the community to increase self-reliance and affordability of medication. According to the Central Statistics Agency, in 2019, it was recorded that 71.46% of the public took self-medication. One of the common self-medication actions is to relieve pain due to menstruation. The incidence of menstrual pain in Indonesia reaches 64.25% which is divided into primary menstrual pain (54.89%) and secondary menstrual pain (9.36%). Many of them experience pain which ends up interfering with daily activities so that to reduce pain due to menstruation, self-medication is carried out such as taking pain relievers. This study aims to determine knowledge as well as the use of drugs on self-medication of menstrual pain in female students of the Elementary School Teacher Education (PGSD) study program at Civilization University. This study used a quantitative description method using questionnaires and interviews with a population of 341 and a sample of 40 female students who met the inclusion criteria experiencing menstrual pain and had used menstrual pain relievers, in the study using simple linear regression analysis methods and multiple linear regression assisted by application SPSS. After conducting the research, it was found that respondents who had good knowledge were 82.5% and quite good were 17.5%, Respondents who chose to use the drug Paracetamol were 42.5%, Mefenamic Acid were 17.5% and Feminax were 40%. The results of simple linear regression showed that there was an effect of knowledge on primary menstrual pain self-medication with a p value of 0.002 <0.05 and there was no effect of drug use on primary menstrual pain self-medication with a p value of 0.098> 0.05. The results of multiple linear regression show that knowledge has the most significant effect on drug use on primary menstrual pain self-medication in PGSD students at Civilization University in 2023 with a p value of 0.004 <0.05.
