The Effectiveness of Using Pictures Media to Improve Vocabulary Mastery at the Seventh Grade Students of SMP Negeri 2 Margasari in the Academic Year 2022/2023
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to know the effectiveness of using pictures on students’ vocabulary achievement. The method used in this research was a quantitative method that is dealing with quasi-experimental design. Population of the study was the eighth grade of SMP Negeri 2 Margasari that consists of 32 students. The writers used convenience sampling because there are only two classes at seventh grade, VII E as the control class and VII F as the Experimental class. The experimental class was taught by using pictures while the control class was taught by translation method or without implementing pictures. Moreover, this study was conducted through the following process; pretest, treatments, and post-test. The data analysed was gained through vocabulary tests. The data of the tests was then calculated by using t-test in SPSS 24 with significance 5% (0.05). The t-test was done by calculating the gained scores between pretest and post-test in both classes showing that the to in gained scores (2.7383) is higher than the ttable (1,67155) with df=58 in the significance level of 5% (0.05). Thus, the to result > ttable which means that the H0 (null hypothesis) is rejected and Ha (alternative hypothesis) is accepted. The effect size calculation was 0.74 where the range of effect criteria includes to the moderate effect. Thus, it can be concluded that single singing game has moderate effect on students’ vocabulary achievement at the seventh grade of SMP Negeri 2 Margasari.
