Basa Panginyongan : Identitas Wong Banyumas dalam Komunikasi Multikultural
Keywords:
Basa Panginyongan,Multicultural Communication, Phenomenological ApproachAbstract
This study focuses on cultural differences in multicultural communication, particularly on the use of Basa Panginyongan, which is often perceived as humorous, rustic, and less elegant. The findings indicate that intercultural communication practices are still influenced by ethnocentrism, namely the belief that one’s own culture is superior, as well as by stereotypes in the form of prejudice and subjective judgments toward Basa Panginyongan speakers. These attitudes constitute major barriers to multicultural communication because they hinder the development of effective intercultural interaction. Therefore, speakers of Basa Panginyongan are encouraged to develop a sense of pride in the distinctive features of their dialect as an integral part of their cultural identity. In line with this, continuous efforts to preserve Basa Panginyongan are necessary to ensure its sustainability within an increasingly multicultural society.
