Abstract
Tuberculosis was the single leading cause of death by infectious agents, ranking
above HIV/AIDS. The increasing number of pulmonary tuberculosis sufferers is
caused by various factors such as age, gender, place of residence, education, but
can be influenced by other factors, such as having lived with a tuberculosis
patient, being diagnosed with pulmonary tuberculosis by a health worker,
smoking and including adherence to treatment. Counseling is important in
addition to periodic health checks and guidance for sufferers to enable patients to
truly understand how to strive for complete healing for themselves. This study
aims to determine the effectiveness of counseling in increasing knowledge in the
treatment of pulmonary tuberculosis patients at the Kesambi Health Center, to
determine the effectiveness of counseling in increasing compliance with the
treatment of pulmonary tuberculosis patients at the Kesambi Health Center, and
to determine the effectiveness of counseling in the treatment of pulmonary
tuberculosis patients at the Kesambi Health Center. The method used is
quantitative with a cross sectional study approach and uses a cohort study. This
study used a group that was given a pretest and posttest after being given
counseling. The sampling technique in this study was a total sampling of 55
patients who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria and the research
instrument used was a pretest and posttest knowledge and compliance
questionnaire. The data analysis used was paired t test. The results of the paired
T test analysis showed that there was a significant effectiveness between
counseling and the level of knowledge of pulmonary tuberculosis patients at the
Kesambi Health Center with a p value of 0.002. There was significant
effectiveness between counseling in increasing the compliance level of pulmonary
tuberculosis patients at the Kesambi Health Center with a p value of 0.000. Based
on the results of medical records of pulmonary tuberculosis patients at the
Kesambi Health Center who were said to have recovered as many as 53 patients
(96.4%), it was said that counseling had a sufficient effect to increase the level of
knowledge and adherence in the treatment of pulmonary tuberculosis at the
Kesambi Health Center.
